Historically, the U Street corridor has been home to the city’s most prominent African Americans and was the site of jazz legend Duke Ellington’s childhood home. To this day, you can see the legacy of Ellington and others through U Street’s many music venues including the Black Cat, DC9, U Street Music Hall, and the Velvet Lounge. In addition to the vibrant music scene, this Northwest DC neighborhood has a particularly hoppin' nightlife, with endless restaurants, bars, and clubs to choose from on your next night out on the town!
U Street is easy to access via Metro, using the U Street stop on the Green and Yellow lines.
